Product Overview: 752A Reference Voltage Divider
The 752A reference voltage divider is both accurate and easy to use. It is available in 10:1 and 100:1 DC divider outputs with output uncertainties of less than 0.2 ppm and 0.5 ppm respectively.
The 752A Reference Voltage Divider can be easily calibrated prior to each use with only a stabilized voltage source and a zero check meter. The entire process takes only 5 minutes and does not require the use of external standards.
This calibration method corrects for long-term variations in the internal resistance of the voltage divider. For calibration, the upper arm of the voltage divider is divided into 3 equal groups. If they are connected in parallel, they form a resistor with a value equal to the output resistor. These two resistors form half of a Wheatstone bridge. The other half of the bridge consists of two calibration resistors whose positions in the circuit can be interchanged. This interchanging of positions allows us to correct the difference between the values of the two calibration resistors using the balance knob on the front panel of the instrument. In this way, the upper arm resistor is able to match the output resistor of a 10:1 or 100:1 potentiometer, respectively.
In stand-alone mode, the input voltage of the voltage divider is added to its input and can be selected by the mode switch between 10:1 and 100:1. this enables the output voltage to be obtained at the output of the voltage divider.
When the 752A Reference Voltage Divider is used in conjunction with a 10V reference source and a Zero Check Meter, the system becomes a 5 decimal voltage calibrator that compares 1000V, 100V, 10V, 1V, and 0.1V input voltages to a 10V reference standard. In this mode, the calibrated voltage source is connected to the inputs of the 752A, and instead of having to manually change the wiring, a mode switch can be used to switch the system to accommodate each range.
When the 752A is self-calibrating, the 752A voltage divider switches its resistors when the mode switch is placed in the 752A CAL position and forms a bridge circuit with two other internal resistors. The excitation signal from the bridge is connected to the input of the voltage source (the excitation signal voltage is set to 20V) and the zero check meter is switched to the position across the bridge to measure the balance of the bridge.
