Main characteristics

  • High Brightness 7-LED Array - 4,800 Lux @ 6,000 FPM/30cm
  • High-efficiency LED solid-state light source with uniform flicker characteristics for higher flicker frequencies-30-300,000 FPM (flashes per minute)
  • Digital pulse width modulation for extremely sharp images at higher speeds
  • Rugged design utilizes solid-state LEDs without filaments, gas, hollow fibers, or glass (withstands 1-meter drops)
  • Quartz precision control system provides high accuracy - 0.02% (+/- 1 bit)
  • Multiple LCD displays
  • Check machine speed without physical contact or reflective tape
  • Increase or decrease the blink time to see the number of gear teeth, number of shear surfaces, number of repetitions, or "drifting" devices.
  • Simple push-button operation with 2x and ÷2 buttons for easy adjustment

Adjustable blink duration

The standard blink duration is suitable for most applications and requires no adjustment. In other applications (larger rotating objects with higher RPM or faster surface speeds), an adjustable blink duration is required. In high-speed applications, the object may move within a short period of time of one blink, resulting in an unclear image. By shortening the blinking duration, the object will move for a shorter period of time and the displayed image will be clearer.

Common Applications for 820-2

The Fluke 820-2 LED Stroboscope is more than just a tool for measuring the rotational speed of mechanical equipment without physical contact. It is also an excellent diagnostic tool for a variety of applications:

  • Belt Driven Machines - HVAC Fans, Pumps
  • Ball bearings, shafts, gear teeth or other machine components
  • Clutches and gears
  • Foundation - resonance
  • Worn or damaged cables or pipes
  • Mixing and Dosing Process

Product Overview: Fluke 820-2 LED Stroboscope

Observe and study potential mechanical failures with confidence

Measuring the operating speed of rotating equipment is no easy task, but the Fluke 820-2 LED Stroboscope simplifies the process by allowing stop motion diagnostics to be performed without physically shutting down the equipment or making contact. Whether you're diagnosing parasitic oscillations, slippage, or harmful distortion, the 820-2 LED Stroboscope is the ideal field troubleshooting, process or product research and development tool.
The LED Stroboscope can also be used as a strobe tachometer to measure speed without the need for a laser tachometer. When using this strobe, the part being measured must be visible and have an identifying mark that can be used as a reference point. A strobe tachometer is a very useful tool because you can't always apply reflective tape by touching the machine shafts to use a laser tachometer, or touch the moving shafts to use a contact tachometer - by using a strobe you can bring the shaft speeds down and "freeze" them to 30 RPM (FPM).

820-2 Applies:

  • Turbines with variable and frequently changing speeds
  • Variable frequency drive motors with variable speeds but minimal speed changes
  • View belt speed and find belt slip
  • View machine components - fan blades, pump blades, compressor screws and gear teeth.
  • RPM measurement and frequency check
  • Slip measurement
